Daniel "Juan-Daniel" C - Homeschool Tutor In Austin TX - Local or Online
I am a retired public school teacher, who's still young at heart. I've taught at the secondary level, 6th - 12th. For 2 years, I've been a private tutor/teacher to a 3rd grader and a 9th grader (in Austin). I have previously taught Theatre Arts, English, and Professional Communication for most of my career. I have also directed Theatre plays for schools where I worked. They were such fun! I still enjoy Theatre and hope to get into community theatre once the doors are open to everyone, again. I love animals. I currently have a puppy that I adopted. I've had dogs for most of my life, along with my son. I have 1 son who's in the military. I love to read most kinds of books. I read a great deal of young adult books that many of my students would read, too; for example, the Percy Jackson books and the John Green books. I also enjoy reading non-fiction, mystery, and horror books, like Stephen King's. Being an English teacher, I've also read the novels taught in class, plus a great deal of Shakespeare's works. I enjoy being outdoors, watching films, and live music. My taste in books, films, and music are so varied that I couldn't list all of them here. Italian food is my fave. Although I've only taught 6 through 12 graders, I am open to tutoring elementary students.
Experience
I have been a private tutor/teacher for 2 years to a 3rd grader and a 9th grader, now in 5th & 11th grades. I tutored the 3rd grader in English Language Arts, Math, Science, improving his reading and writing skills, too. I tutored the 9th grader in Pre-AP English, Spanish I, Biology, Geography, and with his presentational and organizational skills. I have 24 years of being an educator and 21 years of being the Theatre Arts director. I have been awarded Teacher of the Year twice and nominated a third time in my career. At one school district, I directed 3 of my original plays for school Theatre Fall Show productions. I'm a reader of many books outside of the English class required novels, as well a reader of plays (due to my theatre background). In my career, I have taught: English I -- IV, including Pre-AP & AP levels; Theatre Arts I -- IV, Professional Communication (Speech), Creative Writing, Psychology, and Yearbook/Journalism. In my past, I have invariably tutored nieces/nephews and children of former students. They were different level students, not just high school (secondary). I have also tutored siblings and colleagues in writing research papers for their college classes. Education and the success of my students has always been important to me.
